How did Ryan Giggs continue playing into his 40th year?
Well his disdain for fizzy drinks could quite possibly have played a part in maintaining his unparalleled fitness as a player.
The Manchester United legend treated his body like a temple in his latter years and his diet was as much a part of that as his embracing of newly popular exercise regimes such as yoga.
And it turns out that the Welshman didn’t tolerate any junk food nonsense from his fellow players either as a story has emerged of Giggs giving the business to a young Cristiano Ronaldo for carrying a can of Coca-Cola into breakfast.
Former Premier League striker and current football pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has shared former international teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s account of the altercation, which supposedly took place at United’s training base back in the day.
Solskjaer, who played for United between 1996 and 2007, is one of only a handful of players to have spent several years in the same setup as both Giggs and Ronaldo, and was already a senior player when the Portuguese moved to Manchester.
Solskjær: – CRonaldo came once to a breakfast with a coke in his hands. Giggs pushed him on the wall and said: – Don't ever do that again!
