Olympique Marseille are really excited about the arrival of Steven Fletcher… at least we think they’re excited.
In one of the more surprising deals struck on deadline day, Sunderland agreed to loan out the Scottish striker to the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the season.
The club confirmed the transfer with a statement on their official website, listing off Fletcher’s career achievements, expressing their delight at the striker joining the club and just falling short of professing their love for the Scot.
“He will not leave you unmoved. He will not go unnoticed. Marseille has added a Scotsman to the mix. And if you know anything about the mentality of that people, you’ll know that’s good news”.

Calm down now, Marseille. We all know that Fletcher will be a Messiah-like figure, ready to tend to his flock of teammates and show them the righteous path towards trophy-winning glory in the space of four months.
“He may not be known as a technical player, but he is 1.85m tall.”
Well, there’s no arguing with that. Fletcher isn’t technical, but he is undeniably 1.85m tall.
