Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have first dibs on Borussia Dortmund players, apparently.
There was a lot of hype around the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager when it was announced that he would be making Manuel Pellegrini surplus to requirements at the Etihad Arena, forcing the Chilean out of the job.
His credentials as a manager are obvious, with multiple league titles, multiple cups and multiple Champions League titles on his resume. However, his ability to bring in big-name signings also had City fans salivating, and according to the BBC, he’s on the verge of making his first transfer at the club.
It is expected that the transfer of Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund to City will be announced “imminently” after both clubs reached an agreement over a transfer fee reportedly around the £20 million mark.
Gundogan has been linked with a move to the Etihad Arena for a while now, but the transfer was thrown into doubt after the 25-year-old dislocated his kneecap in training at the start of May.
The midfielder recently underwent knee surgery, has been ruled out of Euro 2016, but it is understood that this won’t affect his move to City. However, it will mean that he will miss the beginning of the new Premier League season.
Is this the first of many marquee signings for the Spaniard?
