Those Dortmund fans are well able to hold a grudge.
With Mario Gotze looking set to end an unhappy spell at Bayern Munich, many reports have broken the battle for the World Cup winner’s signature as a fight between his former manager, Jurgen Klopp, and his old club, Borussia Dortmund.
Gotze has always been a favourite of the Liverpool boss, and with the player having just a year left on his contract, he could sign for the Reds for a relatively bargain price of £15million.
Dortmund remain the biggest competitors to Bayern in the Bundesliga, but Gotze’s departure from the club three years left a bitter taste in the mouths of supporters, who have made clear their feelings on the 23-year-old’s possible return.
A giant banner was unveiled during yesterday’s 3-2 win over Werder Bremen, which read: “Milan or Madrid – Just not Dortmund. Piss off Götze.”
No mistaking the sentiment there.
