The summer is in sight and the transfer rumours are swirling again. And they’re setting off in a blaze with Robert Lewandowski’s comments about the possibility of playing in England.
The 27-year-old is one of the hottest pieces of property in the world and he was bound to have been linked with Manchester United at some stage over the last year – is there a player that wasn’t? Honestly?
The Bayern Munich striker has been playing in the Bundesliga for six years now, firstly with Borussia Dortmund, and his form has been prolific.
In the summer, he leads Poland into a tough Euro 2016 group with Germany, Ukraine, and Northern Ireland but, after that, who knows?
“Maybe I’ll play in England or Spain one day,” the hitman told France Football.
“But, if I committed to pursuing my career in Munich, it’s because I considered it the ideal club at which to move up a level and to win more trophies.
“The fact that every season they reach at least the semi-finals of the Champions League impressed me.”
There is a problem though. Premier League clubs aren’t that good.
“Apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, what other teams can brag about such consistency?
“I don’t know what my future will look like but at the moment I’m very happy at Bayern.”
However, with Pep Guardiola leaving Munich for Manchester City, Lewandowski might not be as keen to hang around forever. Especially with the strides he feels he has already made under the Spanish boss.
“With him I have made much progress,” the Pole said. “After three months with him, I realised that I had already taken several steps.”
It’s going to be a long summer.
