A footballer being misquoted by journalists? It sounds far-fetched, but we’ve been assured that it has been known to happen occasionally.
That’s the explanation given by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who had Real Madrid fans wetting their proverbial pants after reportedly describing the Spanish team as the only side for which he would leave Borussia Dortmund.
The Gabon forward, who has scored 80 goals in three seasons in Germany, had been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga this summer.
Manchester City were thought to be potential suitors, and some of their fans may have been disheartened by the Real Madrid noise.
But that may have changed after Aubameyang’s latest Instagram post.

Good on him for clearing things up.
There’s no way that could possibly be misinterpreted as meaning he’s ready to swap Dortmund for a club that isn’t Real Madrid.
Nope, absolutely no chance of that happening.

In fairness, Dortmund *have* just signed Mario Gotze, Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor and Andre Schurrle to add to a front-line that already includes Marco Reus and Adrian Ramos.
Aubameyang tweeted the message in English, too. Why would he do that unless…
We see what you’re up to, Pierre-Emerick.
