A more ambitious crossover than Avengers: Infinity War
Football shirt culture is growing ever day, at the rate of a baby sea lion if not quite the rate of the islands of rubbish in the ocean.
Over the years football kits have gone from something fans wear when going to matches, and often outside of them to show who they support, to being an item of clothing in itself that one would not be embarrassed to walk down the street in.
This has seen retro kits of yore become hot commodities, as people pay hundreds of pounds for 1970s, 80s and 90s kits which, at the time, would have cost a fraction of that.
It’s not just a case of nostalgia though, more and more kit manufacturers are attempting to bridge the gap between sport and fashion with modern day kits, in a bid to maximise their sales.
This was something stated by Adidas designers who recently spoke to JOE at the company’s headquarters in Germany, and it’s evidenced by a number of kits released in recent years.
Nowhere is this more the case than the rumoured Jordan Brand Paris Saint-Germain kits which are rumoured for next season.
To those not aware, Jordan Brand is a basketball shoe and athletic wear brand created for Michael Jordan. Its logo is the “Jumpman” silhouette of Jordan leaping for a slam dunk.
According to reports, Jordan Brand will provide the kits for the Ligue 1 giants for the 2019/20 season, with the Air Jordan logo replacing the Nike sign on the Parisian club’s kits.
While Nike has a deal with the club to provide kits and merchandise until 2022, the fact that Jordan Brand is a subsidiary of the Oregon-based company makes it highly possible.
Another possible hint is that the move follows announcement of the Air Jordan 5 Paris, which will be released this summer as part of brand’s International City Pack.
The sneakers are a nod to the club and feature the year of its creation as well its crest.
