This, we can safely assume, was not how Steven Gerrard would’ve wanted Rangers’ Europa League campaign to start
Back in the group stages of a European competition for the first time in eight years, Rangers managed to hold out for all of 43 seconds in their game against Villarreal.
With a ball played forward to Carlos Bacca, it seemed the Scottish side had enough bodies between the Colombian and the goal to avoid conceding a ridiculously early opener. They didn’t.
The former AC Milan striker engineered just enough space to get a shot away, firing perfectly beyond Allan McGregor from the edge of the penalty area to give the Spanish side a lead.
Not a bad goal at all…
Ohhh what a goal! 🙌
A nightmare start for Rangers in Europe…
