Rangers fans vs Little Mix is now the strangest new rivalry in football

This is just bizarre.

Mike Wright

You’d think being half of one of the most infamous and bitter football rivalries would be enough for Rangers fans.

Apparently not.

Perhaps The Old Firm derby is just getting a bit stale. Or maybe the 5-1 hammering they took from Celtic in September has caused them to seek out a rivalry they’ve better chances in.

Either way, Rangers fans seem to have alighted on their next foe – Little Mix fans.

Now the interests of these two demographics don’t normally collide. But hostilities have broken out on social media over the race for the iTunes Christmas number one slot.

Little Mix fans had been hoping to see their girls topping the charts come December 25 with their new single Touch.

And things were looking good. That was until Rangers fans suddenly rallied behind the 1964 hit Glad All Over, by The Dave Clark Five.

The song has become a hit at Ibrox after forming the basis for their chant about Joe Garner.

Rangers faithful felt there was no better Christmas gift they could get their beloved striker than to get #JoeyGarnerChristmasNumberOne trending on Twitter.

This then prompted thousands of fans to download the song and send it shooting up the iTunes charts.

After seeing their Christmas chart hopes wilting under the onslaught, Little Mix fans took to social media to voice their despair.

And it didn’t take Rangers fans long to respond.

And then hostilities ratcheted up another level when the photoshopping started.

The way this one is going, Rangers Celtic on New Years Eve is looking more and more like a pre-season formality.
