This would smash the fee for Paul Pogba.
Real Madrid have agreed to sign Kylian Mbappe, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.
Madrid are said to have reached an “agreement in principle” with Monaco for the 18-year-old. The transfer will cost £161m.
The potential deal for Mbappe would make him the most expensive footballer in history. The fee is over 70 million more than what Pogba cost Manchester United last summer, the previous record for a transfer.
According to Marca, Madrid will pay around £145m in one instalment, and the rest in performance related bonuses. The French forward will reportedly earn almost £200k a week after tax and will sign a six year deal with the Spanish champions.
Madrid have cash to spend after recently selling Alvaro Morata to Chelsea for £58m, and Danilo to Manchester City for £26.5m.
A small point but worth making:
Mbappé doesn't come because Morata went; Morata went became Mbappé was coming.

Mbappe made a huge impression last season. The 18-year-old scored 26 goals in 44 games, helping Monaco to the French title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Clear evidence that Monaco have cloned Thierry Henry in the form of Kylian Mbappé… pic.twitter.com/oFkQZgKrMD

He has been linked with every top club in Europe, from Arsenal to Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona to Manchester United. But Madrid appear to have beaten them all to the French forward.
Or maybe not.
According to Sky Sports reporters Bryan Swanson and Kaveh Solhekol, Monaco have not agreed to sell the player. The situation should become clearer over the next few days.
