When it was first released back in 2004, James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful received so much airplay that no one ever wanted to hear it again.
While we all imagined it was a love song, even proving a popular option for the first dance at a wedding, James Blunt has since explained that it has little or nothing to do with romance.
You’ll recall the lyrics go as follows:
My love is pure
I saw an angel
Of that I’m sure
She smiled at me on the subway
She was with another man
But I won’t lose no sleep on that
‘Cause I’ve got a plan
You’re beautiful
You’re beautiful, it’s true
I saw your face in a crowded place
And I don’t know what to do
‘Cause I’ll never be with you
As we walked on by
She could see from my face that I was,
Fuckin’ high
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again
But we shared a moment that will last till the end
You’re beautiful
You’re beautiful, it’s true
I saw your face in a crowded place
And I don’t know what to do
‘Cause I’ll never be with you
You’re beautiful
You’re beautiful, it’s true
There must be an angel with a smile on her face
When she thought up that I should be with you
But it’s time to face the truth
I will never be with you
In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, the singer said that he often gets labelled as “the soft romantic” and the fact is this simply isn’t true.
If you did choose the song for your wedding or another significant occasion, you might want to look away now…
Chatting to the publication, he said:
“You’re Beautiful is not this soft romantic f**king song. It’s about a guy who’s high as a fucking kite on drugs in the subway stalking someone else’s girlfriend when that guy is there in front of him, and he should be locked up or put in prison for being some kind of perv”.
Well, that clears that up!
He also acknowledged the fact that people became sick of it saying that “too much of a good thing Can turn into a bad thing eventually”.
“Is it an annoying song? No, it’s not, unless it’s shoved down your f**king throat a shitload”.
