Dana White is a Step Brothers fan, who knew?
First Conor McGregor was retired, then he was booted off of UFC 200, then he returned from retirement and on Monday morning, he claimed on social media that he had worked out everything with the UFC and he’s been added back to the landmark event on July 9.
Everyone got pretty excited about the UFC’s biggest superstar returning to headline what could be the promotion’s biggest event, but it looks like fight fans are set to be disappointed again.
Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200!
Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 25, 2016
UFC president Dana White told TMZ after McGregor’s tweet that his claim was false and that the featherweight champion would not be fighting on UFC 200.
“It’s not true. We haven’t talked to Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that.
“All the media keeps asking me that. I feel like the scene in ‘Step Brothers’ when they ask if they can build the bunk beds. I don’t know how many more times I can say the fight is off or how many more press conferences I can have saying the fight is off for people to believe it’s off.”
This report backs up another from the LA Times, who claim were sent a text by White in which he confirmed that a deal for a return is “not true. We haven’t talked [to] Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that.”
The circus continues…
