Former Liverpool player reportedly lined up to replace Gary Neville on Sky Sports

This is very surprising

We reckon finding someone to adequately replace Gary Neville on Sky Sports will be akin to trying to get someone to replace Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

No matter what you do, you’re going to be compared to your illustrious predecessor and your best will likely never been good enough.

However, that won’t stop recently retired Premier League footballers tripping over each other to take Neville’s spot on Sky Sports’ flagship football show Monday Night Football, and apparently former Liverpool and Celtic forward Craig Bellamy is top of the queue.

The Daily Mail are today reporting that the 36-year-old is ‘thrilled’ at the idea of stepping into the analyst role Neville performed with such distinction before taking charge of La Liga side Valencia.

Liverpool v Manchester City - Carling Cup Semi Final Second LegBellamy, who retired in 2014 after a stint with his hometown club Cardiff City, has worked on Sky before and had two spells at Anfield alongside current Monday Night Football analyst Jamie Carragher.

The Welsh striker was a controversial character during his playing career, and would have big shoes to fill to replace the departed Neville.

Would he be a good choice to succeed the former Manchester United defender?
