It’s alright Everton fans, John Stones handing in his transfer request was all just a misunderstanding.
The 21-year-old has been aggressively pursued by Chelsea this summer, who have fired bid after bid at Everton in order to try to snap up the young defender.
So far, the Toffees have managed to keep hold of the English man but they had a scare when Stones handed in a transfer request in order to try to force his move to Stamford Bridge.

Fear not though Everton fans, for manager Roberto Martinez offered up an explanation for Stones’ transfer request over the weekend.
“With John, it’s very easy because he’s a pristine professional. Obviously he’s been put under massive, massive pressure. The transfer request was something he didn’t mean to do.”
Everton fans will be delighted to hear that Stones handed in the request by accident. As often happens in professional football, he merely slipped on a pen, causing it to scrawl his signature on the document which he mistakenly handed to the chairman.
Well, we’re glad that’s all been cleared up now.
To put your minds even more at rest, Toffees supporters, here is how Martinez responded when asked if Stones had any regret over the transfer request.
“No, no, no. We haven’t spoken about that. All we’ve been speaking about is the game and what we need to do. He’s been a leader in that.”
