This isn’t the sort of thing we want to see happen to any player.
Robin van Persie left the field on a stretcher earlier this afternoon after suffering a gruesome eye injury following a collision with Abdulwahid Sissoko.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker opened the scoring during Fenerbahce’s 3-1 win over Akhisar Belediyespor.
But his good day was cut short after the collision saw him hit the ground bleeding from the left eye. He was immediately stretchered off, though after he was seen to he returned to the ground to watch the remainder of the game.

There is no official prognosis yet on how Van Persie will recover from the injury, which certainly looked serious.
The Dutch international was returning to first-team action after remaining on the bench throughout Fener’s 2-1 Europa League group stage win over his former club, Manchester United.
After taking a while to get off the mark at the start of the season, today’s goal made it five in six for the veteran, who scored 16 goals in his first season in Turkey.
Fenerbahce’s other two goals came through Moroccan international Aatif Chahechouhe and an own goal from Fatih Ozturk, while former Premier League striker Hugo Rodallega got the hosts’ consolation.
