Cristiano Ronaldo vs Iceland is perhaps one of the most unlikely beefs in football history – but it’s a good beef.
In fact, it’s turning into the prime ribeye steak of football beef.
“Iceland didn’t try anything,” whined the Portuguese captain after his side drew 1-1 with “Our Boys” (that’s their real nickname) earlier in the tournament.
“They were just defend, defend, defend and playing on the counterattack. It was a lucky night for them. We should have three points but we are OK. I thought they’d won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end. It was unbelievable. When they don’t try to play and just defend, defend, defend, this in my opinion shows a small mentality and they are not going to do anything in the competition.”
Iceland didn’t like this accusation of having a “small mentality” and they proved revenge is a dish best served ice cold by finishing second in Group F, above Portugal who finished third.
But the beef didn’t stop there, with Iceland’s Elmar Bjarnason coming out with this absolute zinger firmly aimed at Ronaldo.

“It just shows what you can do when you have team spirit, when you’re not playing for yourself. It’s unbelievable to be part of this great team.”
Not. Playing. For. Yourself.
Ouch.
