Ronaldo’s tippy-toe trick is the height of vanity

JOE

You would have thought the current Ballon d’Or holderĀ and one of the most recognisable faces on the planet wouldn’t need any more attention. You’d be wrong.

As Real Madrid lined up to face Manchester City in Melbourne on Friday, one player towered over the rest of his teammates – both in terms of stature and ego.

Cristiano Ronaldo decided that his 6ft 1in frame wasn’t quite big enough and that he needed an extra little boost. So gave himself one by standing on his tippy-toes.

It meant he towered over teammate Karim Benzema (who’s actually an inch taller) to look about 6ft 5in – and a bit of the plum when you scan down to his boots.

Alas it’s not the first time he hasĀ felt the need to extend his height for the sake of team snap. Below are just a few of the occasions he has sought those vital extra inches.

Remarkably, it’s not the vainest thingĀ anyone has done in a team photo. Bayern Munich’sĀ Jerome Boateng and Dante pulled back their shirts to look more muscular…

We await the first pair of socks down a player’sĀ shorts.
