Even one of the most serious men Irish sport is up for the craic now and again.
Roy Keane was seen playing a cruel prank on Ireland goalkeeper coach Seamus McDonagh at Ireland’s training camp ahead of their Group E clash against Belgium on Saturday.
The former Manchester United hardman is not exactly known for his lighthearted humour, but it seems that as the years go by he might be mellowing out a little. Strangely enough, though, he’s relying on more childish ways to get his giggles.
The assistant coach appeared to be in high spirits as the Republic of Ireland looked to build on a promising display in their 1-1 draw with Sweden on Monday.
The Irish coaches were having some fun on the training pitch, playing a game of football bowls (au francais: football petanque) when Keane pulled a sly one on McDonagh.
As the 64-year-old was taking his run-up, young whippersnapper Keane fiendishly kicked his ball with expert timing to knock it clean out of the path of McDonagh’s foot, just as he was about to connect with it.
Of course, he fell flat on his arse, much to delight of Keano and the other coach present.
