Sam Burgess just can’t catch a break.
The England international’s rugby union career came to an abrupt end after a dismal World Cup and a handful of caps as the centre flanker player headed to Australia to sign for Russell Crowe’s South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Burgess made his name in league and he thought a return to Australia would be the perfect way to get away for the horrible mess that has enveloped the English national team. However, the dream return seems to have hit quite a snag according to reports in Australia this morning.
Seven News are reporting that the NRL are refusing to register Burgess because his deal will see the club exceed the maximum wage cap for 2016 – an ironic twist considering the rumours that his former club Bath breached the salary cap in order to secure his signature last year.

That means that in order for Burgess to be allowed play, some of his current team-mates are going to have to be released from their contracts.
Dylan Walker is the first to be sacrificed with a year left on his contract but it appears that Burgess’s arrival will put lots of noses out of joint – and he hasn’t even got a chance to slam into any of them yet.
