Jamie Vardy’s five-year-old daughter was the target of truly vile tweets from accounts purporting to be Manchester United fans.
Young Sofia was pictured wearing a Foxes shirt with ‘Daddy 9’ on the back, which was posted on Twitter by her mum Rebekah Nicholson.
But the England striker’s little girl was then spoken about in the most horrendous terms by trolls online.
Miss Nicholson responded to one tweet, saying: “There are no words for people like you! You need locking up.”

Vardy himself posted the worst examples and called them ‘vile and shocking’.
Now his family have taken the matter to Leicestershire Police, who are now investigating the online abuse and ‘sexual threats’ made, according to the Leicester Mercury.
A Leicestershire Police spokesman said they were “investigating a report of malicious communication being sent via social media”.
He added that the force was liaising with Leicester City Football Club.
A Leicester City spokesman said: “We have offered our full support to Jamie and his family in dealing with this shocking abuse and referred the matter to the police.”
One of the supposed Twitter accounts has been suspended and another two were deleted from the social media platform.
