Sickening Aussie rules knockout hit is genuinely difficult to watch

Horrific

Steven May is likely to miss several weeks of the AFL Premiership season and rightly so.

The Gold Coast defender knocked the Brisbane Lions’ Stefan Martin unconscious with a nasty challenge during Saturday morning’s Q-Clash tie.

Martin was being chased by Suns captain Gary Ablett who pushed the Lions ruckman in the back and into the path of the onrushing May.

May turned his body, took to the air and put all his weight behind his right shoulder which smashed into Martin’s face, immediately knocking him unconscious and leaving him motionless on his back.

May was put on report for the bump and is expected to be suspended for a number of weeks for the brutal hit which forced Martin off on a stretcher.

It’s not the first time that May has been involved in such an incident as he also knocked Tom Rockliff unconscious with a shoulder that saw him banned for three weeks last year.

Thankfully Martin regained consciousness in the dressing room and the Lions announced via Twitter that they did not expect him to have to be taken to hospital.
