Simon Mignolet could be closing in on a move to Barcelona.
The Belgian started last season as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper, only to eventually be replaced by Loris Karius.
While the arrival of Alisson Becker is said to have disappointed Karius, the 25-year-old will remain on Merseyside, seemingly forcing Mignolet to seek pastures new.
Now, following reports that Besiktas had asked about Mignolet’s availability last week, it seems Barcelona could be a possible destination for the former Sunderland goalkeeper.
Sky Sports report that the 30-year-old is being considered by the Spanish champions, who could sell Jasper Cillessen in the days ahead.
Cillessen moved to the Nou Camp from Ajax two years ago but has spent most of his time there as understudy to Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Should Mignolet complete a move to Barca, it’s likely he would occupy a similar role with Stegen remaining number one.
Mignolet is still to join up with the Liverpool squad after being at the World Cup with Belgium earlier in the summer. He didn’t feature in Russia, with Thibaut Courtois playing every minute in goal for Roberto Martinez’s side.
Liverpool begin their new season with a home game to West Ham on August 12.
