Sky Sports News and Shay Given are a match made in heaven.
For whatever reason, the 24-hour sports news channel just seem to have a blind spot when it comes to the Irish goalkeeper.
Sky Sports News can often feel overhyped and overproduced, but for some utterly bizarre reason Shay Given has the ability to tear down all Sky’s pretences of preparation without even having any idea he is doing it.
Take, for example, back in March when Jack Butland went down injured and Sky Sports decided to get in touch with Given, his back up, to talk about the England goalkeeper’s chances of making Euro 2016.
The only problem was that they didn’t contact Given, but some random Irish man who just happened to be ready to be interviewed on live TV.

And the Donegal man has accidentally embarrassed another Sky Sports News presenter again, simply by announcing his retirement from international football.
In his statement, the former Newcastle man threw in a bit of Irish to thank his fans. At the end of his statement, Given simply said “Go raibh maith agat” – the Irish for “thank you”.
Thanks to all the irish fans around the world 🙏🇮🇪🙏🍀🍀🍀 pic.twitter.com/KSS1U6yZPl

Unfortunately for the folks at Sky Sports News, apparently Rachel Wyse wasn’t around to give them a crash course in all things Gaelic as they failed to pronounce it not once…

But twice! And the second was even worse than the first…
