The Major League Soccer All-Star Game is a highlight of the calendar across the pond, with the best players in the league coming together to face top-tier opposition like Chelsea, Bayern Munich and…Fulham.
But this year’s match against Spurs will see another huge test – whether Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard can play in the same midfield.

With Lampard set to arrive in New York at the end of the current Premier League season – around the same time that Gerrard pulls on the white of LA Galaxy for the first time – the veteran pair could put club rivalries to one side for a magical afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Sure, there will be other sub-plots, like Robbie Keane and Clint Dempsey potentially lining up against their former club, but the main question surrounds the English pair.
Failures in major international tournaments are one thing, but what about a showpiece mid-season friendly with nothing riding on it? That’s the real test.
We know what you’re thinking. It’s easy, one of them can sit deep while the other one bombs forward, right?
But hang on, which of them should be restricted by the deeper role? Surely we want to get the best out of them in the attacking third. Maybe MLS should draft in Owen Hargreaves and opt for a midfield three, just to be safe. And how about Paul Scholes shunted out to the left wing?
Hopefully Gerrard and Lampard can put their differences to one side and work together in a fluid midfield, leaving us asking why they could never do it before.
