Steven Gerrard has spoken of his disappointment at Liverpool failing to sign Tottenham youngster, Dele Alli.

Having signed for Spurs from MK Dons, Alli has caught the eye in the Premier League this season and has been rewarded with his first appearances for England – scoring a stunner in the recent friendly against France.

Earlier in the season it was reported that Liverpool’s transfer committee decided against signing Alli as he didn’t represent value for money.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s game against Qarabag, BT Sport pundit Gerrard was full of praise for the 19-year-old and made it clear that he wished his former club had made a move for him.

“I was actually disappointed Liverpool didn’t sign him,” he explained.  “I thought he was certainly a player Liverpool might have tried to go for, especially with me coming to the end. He was certainly a player that I could see could player for Liverpool for 10 to 15 years. He’s certainly got that ability.”

Gerrard also claimed that Alli was ahead of him when he was the same age.

“He seems to be a little bit ahead of me as far as England games and appearances are concerned. He’s obviously got more experience because he came through at MK Dons which has helped him.”
