He might be enjoying the twilight of his career in Los Angeles, but Steven Gerrard still feels nostalgia for his peak years at Anfield.
The midfielder enjoyed the most notable moment of his career in his mid-20s, captaining Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005 and leading the team to a memorable FA Cup victory the following year.
And he told The Guardian that he still longs for that time.
“I watch every game, and I do wish I was 25 again and captain, and leading them out in front of our supporters. I loved playing in the Premier League and the Champions League,” Gerrard said.
“We’ve got the best league in the world, so you are going to miss it – especially when you’ve spent a lifetime at your home town club.”
Gerrard, who was born on Merseyside, played more than 500 Premier League games for Liverpool before moving to MLS to join the LA Galaxy.
