He was Mr Liverpool during his time at Anfield, and Steven Gerrard has some strong words for players who demand image rights when joining a new club.
“Personally, I think it’s disgusting for a player to ask for image rights from his club,” Gerrard said in an interview with The Guardian.
“I believe that when you sign a contract, you sign your image rights over to them. They pay you well, and you’re working for them. Maybe it’s different if you’re Messi or Ronaldo.”
Gerrard is enjoying his first season in MLS after joining LA Galaxy over the summer, and could end this season with the league title he never collected as a Liverpool player.
The Galaxy are one point off the top of the league table and look set to be seeded in the end-of-season play-offs.
“It’s nice to be in Beverly Hills and LA, but if you watch me play, you’ll see I want to win as much as ever,” he added.
“That’s not going to change. It’s in my DNA.
