Both UFC champions will also coach fighters in the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.
UFC president Dana White and scores of MMA fans look to have got their wish – Stipe Miocic is set to fight Daniel Cormier this summer, at UFC 226, with the news expected to be confirmed by the promotion in the coming days.
Miocic will put his UFC heavyweight belt on the line against Cormier, the UFC light heavyweight champion. The event is set to take place in Las Vegas, at the T-Mobile Arena, on July 7 and the promotion are said to be lining up two more title ‘super-fights’ for the card.
Both Cormier and Miocic successfully defended their titles at UFC 220 in Boston, last weekend, and the wheels were put in motion, that night, for the champion versus champion super-fight. Here is what’s at stake for both men.
- Miocic:Â Victory will see him stretch the record he set at UFC 220 for most consecutive heavyweight title defences, from three to four.
- Cormier: The UFC heavyweight belt to go with his UFC light heavyweight belt. Cormier would be the fifth two-division champion but would follow Conor McGregor’s lead and become just the second fighter to become achampion in two different weight classes at the same time.

Both Cormier and Miocic were also confirmed as coaches for the upcoming season of TUF. The show, which has been a stepping stone for the likes of Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson to name just two, will feature a slate of undefeated featherweight and lightweight fighters.
As reported by MMA Fighting, the promotion is also considering these two champion versus champion super-fights for UFC 226:
- Amanda Nunes vs. Cris Cyborg (for the UFC women’s featherweight belt)
- Demetrious Johnson vs. TJ Dillashaw (for the UFC flyweight belt)
While that all sounds amazing, the one event could potentially tie in six UFC champions. Such an occurrence would surely have a trickle down on other pay-per-view events surrounding the July blockbuster.
