Team GB’s swimmers have made more history in Tokyo
Great Britain have claimed their fourth gold in the pool at the Tokyo Olympics with victory in the inaugural 4x100m mixed medley relay.
Kathleen Dawson, Adam Peaty, James Guy and Anna Hopkin won in a time of three minutes 37.58 seconds, a new world record, with China and Australia taking silver and bronze respectively.
Peaty had already taken gold in the 100m breaststroke, where he defended his title from Rio in 2016. Guy was also part of the victorious 4x200m freestyle relay team.
Not only did the quartet set a new world record, their victory means this is the first time in 113 years that Great Britain have won four swimming golds at an Olympics.

Team GB’s hopes of winning the event appeared to have taken a huge early blow when Dawson slipped off the wall at the beginning of her backstroke leg.
Despite the setback, she came back strongly, setting things up for her teammates to take victory. The middle two legs saw Peaty and Guy put Team GB in the lead, with Hopkin holding it to seal their win.
“One word has changed the whole British team – belief,” Peaty said after the race.
“We believe we can win, we believe we can get world records. If you have belief, you can build everything around that and we showed that here.”
