What do you get the guy who has everything?
Vouchers are always something of a cop-out so why not think outside the box and get him his very own football club?
Non-league football club Basingstoke Town have officially put themselves up for sale on eBay, with bids starting at a very reasonable 99p.
The BBC report that, following chairman Rafi Razzak’s decision to step away from the club after 25 years of service, Basingstoke are looking for new investors and are pulling out all the stops to do so.
“The world needs to know the club is for sale,” supporter and former director Simon Hood told BBC Sport.
Unfortunately, you may have already missed the boat in the bidding which closes next week as the bids are now getting up there. At the time of writing, the highest one registered is in excess of £60,000.
It should be noted that the club has debts of £2 million so maybe don’t view the deal as the bargain it initially seems.
“If we don’t find a buyer, nobody knows what’s going to happen to the club,” Hood continued. “It could just disappear.
“It’s a club with a very long tradition and what better way to keep that going than to let the world know it’s for sale?”
We’re fast approaching 100 bids for the club whose listing notes that “the item may have some signs of cosmetic wear.”
Still, if you fancy throwing your hat in the ring, come right this way.
Or, if you’re looking for something cheaper, people who viewed that item also viewed this rather fetching bike pump which will cost you significantly less.
