Oh how Arsene Wenger could do with a Patrick Vieira or Thierry Henry nowadays.
The soft spine and lack of trusted goalscorers up front have ensured that the Gunners are playing with a ceiling above them in the Premier League nowadays.
Arsenal celebrated a second-placed finish in the league this term – their best return in a decade – and unless something changes at the Emirates, it would be a surprise to see them challenging for the title next season too.
It’s a far cry from the 2003/04 season when the North London side were quite literally unbeatable as Arsenal went through the entire campaign without so much as a single defeat en route to their most recent league victory.
Cameroon defender Lauren played a vital role in that season, lining up at right back in a back four including Sol Campbell, Kolo Toure and Ashley Cole.
And Lauren, who left the club in 2006, believes only one current Arsenal player would have the nous to make it into the now-famous Invincibles side.
“Straight away I would say Alexis Sanchez [would get into the Invincibles team],” Lauren told Goal. “He’s the kind of player who gives 110 per cent in every single game.
“I think to achieve targets and success you need players like that. I like this type of player. You need charismatic figures within the Arsenal squad and he’s one of them.”
