Former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has chosen a fellow Frenchman as his signing of the season.
Henry says that West Ham have done the best business of all the Premier League teams this year by snatching up Dimitri Payet from Marseille over the summer.
The French international has been a key reason behind West Ham’s best ever start to a Premier League season and has also helped out a fair few fantasy football managers too, racking up five goals and three assists before going down with a long-term injury against Everton.
Writing for The Sun, Henry said “Payet has been the buy of the season and I’m surprised other English teams did not go in for the French playmaker when it became clear he would be leaving Marseille.
“Brave on the ball, creative and with good vision, Payet has been the conductor of Bilic’s orchestra. If West Ham are going to progress as a club, it is essential they keep hold of players such as Payet and Manuel Lanzini.”
Arsenal’s record goalscorer then stressed the need for West Ham to keep a hold of players like Payet to continue their development as a club.
“West Ham are a well-followed club with a decent history, who are moving to the Olympic Stadium to generate more revenue,” he said.
“But they will need a quality team to match their quality stadium, which means keeping players like Payet, adding more quality — and competing at the highest level.”
