Seattle Sounders’ game against the Portland Timbers drew a crowd of more than 64,000 – some 14,000 more than the Premier League’s best-attended fixture at St James’ Park.
If that many will turn out to watch the likes of Tyrone Mears and Liam Ridgewell, the league’s doing just fine.
