Tim Cahill never had a problem finding the back of the net during his time in English football, did he?
No. He didn’t. In fact, he bagged 127 goals on these shores during his time with Millwall and Everton. Usually, they were from inside the box and very often, they were headers. In actual fact, Cahill still boasts one of the greatest records for headed goals in Premier League history.
But that’s not to say that Tim can’t come up with the odd screamer once in a while – as he showed on Saturday.
After spells in the US and China, a now 36-year-old Cahill is back in his native Australia with Melbourne City. And with the eyes of the world Australian football fans watching the derby match between Cahill’s team and Melbourne Victory, he scored an absolute beaut.
27 minutes played, the ball falls kindly for Cahill around 35-yards from goal. Will he nudge the ball out wide to a teammate and make one of his well-timed runs into the box? No. Perhaps he’ll see if there’s enough life in his ageing legs to go it alone and try and take the Victory on himself? Nope. Instead, he decided to take on the shot, from bloody miles away.
The goalkeeper, who is seen scrambling back to try and make a save, is powerless to stop the ball from sailing into the top corner.
Pick that one out.
