Tom Davies on the verge of agreeing new long-term contract with Everton

Tom Davies is on the verge of agreeing a new contract which will see the highly rated midfielder commit himself to Everton until 2022.

In a significant boost to Everton ahead of the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, Davies has indicated that he is ready to sign a new agreement less than eight months after signing a five-year deal.

In keeping with club policy, Everton have moved to reward Davies with improved terms to reflect his development during a season in which he has made the breakthrough into the first team and gone on to hold down a regular starting place in Ronald Koeman’s side.

It is understood that talks, involving Robert Elstone, Everton’s chief executive, and Neil Sang, Davies’ agent and confidante, have reached an advanced stage with a formal announcement confirming that the 18-year-old has reached an agreement expected imminently.

Davies has credited Koeman with masterminding his recent progress, saying recently that the advice offered by the Everton manager has been a key factor in his emergence. “I admire him as a player and as a manager because he has done so much in the game,” Davies said.
