Reason I’ll never be a UFC champion #2136: I don’t have it in me to kick anything harder than a football.
In case you hadn’t heard, Tony Ferguson is an outside-the-box kind of fellow.
Ferguson’s unorthodox training methods are well-documented but he’s somehow managed to top himself in preparation for his UFC lightweight title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Considering how many times the Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov match-up has fallen apart in the past, the former wouldn’t have been blamed if he’d wrapped himself in cotton wool for the remaining few weeks of fight camp.
But Ferguson is doing quite the opposite as he bids to turn his interim 155lbs title into the undisputed crown.
No stranger to bonkers training techniques, ‘El Cucuy’ showed off the durability of his shins this week by absolutely leathering a solid steel pipe.
Many predict that the UFC 223 main event, which will take place on April 7, will boil down to a dominant wrestler defending submission attempts from a skilled Jiu-Jitsu technician but it’s clear that Ferguson fancies himself on the feet too.
His elbows and shins are certainly well-conditioned and will have no problem against Nurmagomedov’s flesh and bone.
Meanwhile, I’ve just banged my funny bone and intend to take the rest of the day off.
