Everyone made the same joke as Spurs are granted permission to play at Wembley

Inevitable...

Tottenham Hotspur have been granted permission to play 27 games at Wembley.

Spurs had already agreed with the Football Association to play at the London venue while the new White Hart Lane is being built.

Brent Council’s planning committee met on Thursday night, and voted in favour of the temporary move.

Spurs applied to host 27 games at the stadium’s full 90,000 capacity, and have yet to decide whether they will move to the stadium next season, or for the 2018/19 season.

They will assess if their new stadium will be built in time before activating their option to play games at England’s national stadium, and have until March 31 to decide.

However, Spurs will have to improve their record at Wembley, regardless of when they make the move.

The club played their European games at the stadium this season. They won just once, against CSKA Moscow, and didn’t to make it out of the Champions League group.

They then failed to overcome Gent’s 1-0 lead from the first leg in the Europa League, and the second-leg finished 2-2 at Wembley.

This has led to some arguing that Wembley is a hindrance to the North London club.

Compared to their record at White Hart Lane, where they have won their last 10 games, Spurs’ stay at Wembley, so far, definitely hasn’t gone to plan.

When it was announced that they would be playing 27 games at the stadium in the near future, many on social media joked that this could only mean one thing – Spurs will be relegated, because they’ve perform so poorly at Wembley.

It won’t happen, as Mauricio Pochettino’s team are one of the best in England, but that still didn’t stop many making the same joke.
