National League club Tranmere Rovers showed their Christmas spirit by inviting a number of homeless people to their match against Macclesfield.
The Merseyside club have been raising money all month for underprivileged children and adults in the local area, also launching a Super White Christmas Gift Appeal to raise money for presents, and a Christmas Day meal for adults who would otherwise be spending the day alone.
And today, homeless people from the Wirral and the surrounding area were invited to Prenton Park for a free hot meal, free haircut and free tickets for the match.
To make matters even better, the home side won 1-0 after a late winner from Jeff Hughes, and the result was enough to send Mickey Mellon’s team top of the league.

“For most of us, Christmas is a fun time of year. But for those who are lonely, homeless or in financial difficulty it can be a time of great stress and isolation,” Vice Chairman Nicola Palios said at the launch of the initiative earlier this month.
“These initiatives are an opportunity for us as a Club to try to bring some of the happiness that most of us take for granted to those members of our community who are facing tough times.
“It is initiatives like these that make me very proud to be associated with Tranmere, and with Wirral.”
