The former Manchester United man has been announced as the new manager of Valencia, the Spanish team where his brother Phil has been working as a coach since the start of the season.
Although the Spanish club is owned by Peter Lim, Neville’s friend and co-owner of Salford City, the news came as a surprise to many:
Gary Neville the new Valencia manager… one of those moves you'd shake your head at for being unrealistic on @FootballManager.

Gutted! This reminds me of when Pegguy Arphexad left for Coventry.

Brave move from Gary Neville, would have been very easy to stay in the comfy chair at sky and keep his head down. Good luck to him!

In taking the job at Valencia, many were quick to point out that it could be a stepping stone for another job in the future.
Good old Gary Neville getting some managerial experience so he's in contention for the United job in 2 years time

Huge opportunity for Gary Neville. Success with Valencia would open plenty of doors. England after the Euros? United after Van Gaal?

You'd think that, if Gary Neville has a good period at Valencia, he could be a candidate for the United job in the not too distant future.

Others were more concerned with how he’d handle multiple jobs…
You have to feel for the fans of @GNev2's @FantasyFC team, 'i wanna be adored fc'.
Can he do both jobs?

The decision to leave his role as a Sky Sports pundit has left many disappointed…
Biggest thing Sky had over BT was Gary Neville.

The fact Gary Neville won't be doing sky anymore is the worst news

Gary Lineker was looking forward to what he thought would be Neville’s first game in charge…
Gary Neville's first game in charge will be against Barcelona live on @SkySports . Looking forward to his punditry.

But is soon became clear that Gary had decided to leave that one to younger brother, Phil.
Nice of Gary Neville to give Phil the battering at the hands of Barcelona at the weekend, then take over for the Champions League.

.@GNev2 will take charge after this weekend's game, he must be gutted at missing out on facing @FCBarcelona
