Huge honour...

The Bible of Boxing has spoken.

The new heavyweight champion of the world is the fighter of the year.

The esteemed Ring Magazine has bestowed the honour on Tyson Fury and he graces the cover of the publication this month after his surprise victory over long-time champion Wladimir Klitschko in November gave the heavyweight ranks a new kingpin.

It was the Ukrainian’s first defeat in more than a decade, and Ring said of Fury:

“With his victory, Fury turned boxing’s traditional glamour division upside down. The heavyweights had become largely an afterthought because of the Klitschko brothers’ dominance. Now rising big men like Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Luis Ortiz – combined with Fury and a beatable Klitschko – have made the division interesting again.”

Fury beat some of boxing’s hottest fighters to the award, including Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin, Roman Gonzalez and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Ring praised them as they “all accomplished big things in 2015, but none shook up the sport like Fury did”.
