‘I like to see these YouTubers fight’

Tyson Fury has said that anyone who doesn’t like the recent rise of YouTube boxers within the sport is “just jealous because they ain’t making money”.

The reigning WBC heavyweight champion also said that he thinks YouTubers getting involved in big money celebrity fights is good for boxing because it “brings millions more eyes to my sport”.

Speaking to IFL TV, Fury said: “A lot of people say all this YouTube stuff’s crap, but I’m the best fighter that’s ever lived and I like to see these YouTubers fight. It brings millions more eyes to my sport. Anyone who don’t like it is just jealous because they ain’t making the money.”

The most recent YouTuber bout took place at the end of August, when Jake Paul took on former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, winning the fight on a split decision.

It was a victory that maintained Paul’s undefeated record. He has now gone 4-0.

It was of course Paul’s brother, Logan, who really launched YouTube boxing fights into the stratosphere with his fight against KSI in 2018, a bout that was labelled the “biggest internet event on history”.

Fury himself is currently gearing up for his trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder on October 9. The fight was postponed from its original date of 24 July after a Covid outbreak in Fury’s camp and will be the final chapter in the rivalry between the two.

Victory for Fury will hopefully pave the way for him to finally take on Anthony Joshua in an all-British unification fight between the two heavyweights.
