Melvin Guillard’s trip to the United Kingdom was eventful if nothing else.
The former UFC lightweight was once one of the most explosive 155lbers in all of mixed martial arts, having claimed stoppage victories over the likes of Dennis Siver, Mac Danzig, Evan Dunham and Marcus Davis during his time in the Octagon.
The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 competitor ended up being released by the UFC in 2014 after losing a unanimous decision to Michael Johnson in London and has enjoyed very little MMA success since parting ways with the organisation.
Four defeats and one No Contest in his last five outings mean that that the last official victory on Guillard’s record came in 2014.
Since his MMA career began sputtering ever so slightly, Guillard has tried his hand at a new form of combat as he took part in a bare-knuckle boxing bout at the weekend in Coventry.
Guillard claimed a TKO victory over Dan Breeze at the Coventry Skydome, where 28 fighters ditched the gloves for an evening of bloody violence.

Former UFC welterweight Shonie Carter, who famously knocked out Matt Serra with a spinning back fist at UFC 31, featured in the card’s main event and came up short against John Sweeney, who made his way to the ring on a throne with an Irish flag.
It was a crazy event but the next morning seemingly outdid the night before in the crazy department.
On Sunday morning, Carter posted a video to Facebook showing an altercation between Guillard and another bare-knuckle boxer, Jimmy Sweeney, in a restaurant.
While the pair roared at each other across a table, Guillard seemed to be clutching a knife in his right hand behind his back.
Yet another former UFC fighter in attendance, Wes Sims, confirmed that detail to BJPenn.com.
“That is Melvin,” Sims explained. “Yes he has a butter knife in his hand, yes Shonie Carter filmed, and yes we would have stomped the shit out of those Irish! Good times in the U.K. [It] is quite difficult finding a good meal though, as you see!”
That wasn’t the only meeting of Guillard and Sweeney as they also engaged in a shouting match outside.
Who knew there would be so much hassle around a bare knuckle boxing event?
