Well that went on a bit too long, didn’t it?
Tom Farrell was floored no fewer than five times on Saturday night, when Ohara Davies returned to the win column in devastating style with a sixth round stoppage victory.
The power discrepancy was clear early on, when Davies used every drop of his notorious aggression to put Farrell down in the first frame and it soon became apparent that a tough night was in store for the hometown favourite in Liverpool’s ECHO Arena.

Farrell was visibly shook and his belief in pulling off a remarkable comeback began dwindling soon after the referee allowed him to continue and see the second round.
There is such a thing as fighters being too tough for their own good and Farrell definitely falls into that category as he refused to give in despite the pummeling he took from an impassioned Davies.
An admirable fightback was as brief as it was futile for Farrell, who took far more damage than was necessary in a one-sided beating from the Londoner.

Finally, Farrell’s corner acknowledged the fact that it would serve their fighter better to get him out of there and allow him to fight another day rather than continue to let him act as a punching bag for Davies’ bombs.
The white towel came sailing into the ring and not a moment too soon as Davies got his hands on the WBA International super lightweight title.
“Tom Farrell is a good fighter, I thought he would be out of there in three or four rounds,” Davies said after the fight.
“Tom Farrell has such a heart and I have to respect him for that.
“His eye got cut but he didn’t give up like the champion he is. He is still a champion in my eyes.”
