He’s one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers, but Alex Teixeira’s future is still up in the air.
The Shakhtar Donetsk man is a target for Liverpool, among other clubs, and now he has revealed it’s more than just a rumour.
Speaking to Anfield HQ, Brazil Under-20 international Teixeira claims that a £25m bid has been made by the Premier League club – and rejected by the Ukrainian league leaders – and he doesn’t know why.
“It was a great offer. It was frustrating. But the manager and club president decided against it,” he said.
He said of his suitors: “It is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.”
Teixeira added that Philippe Coutinho, who he played football with as a child growing up in Brazil, offers another reason for him to seek an Anfield move.
