“Honestly, he kind of quit on himself…”
Eddie Alvarez may just have started a feud that could one day see him and Conor McGregor pitted against each other in the Octagon.
The Notorious is expected to drop back down to featherweight to defend his title at UFC 200, but if he does that successfully he may then look to step back up to lightweight to fulfil his dream of holding two belts at once.
Who knows where Rafael Dos Anjos will be at that stage following his recovery from a broken foot, but Alvarez is another possible contender down the road.
And McGregor will no doubt have taken note on the 32-year-old’s thoughts on his loss to Nate Diaz.
“It’s MMA, man, you never know what’s going to happen,” Alvarez told Fight Hype.
“Everybody has their predictions, they do their MMA math but they neglect the intangibles. A guy like Diaz, has them intangibles. He has heart, he fights hard and you can never ignore that.
“… Conor couldn’t deal with a guy – after hitting him as hard as he did – that was still on his feet and he lost it. Honestly, he kind of quit on himself.”
