Miesha Tate caused a major shock by dethroning Holly Holm in her first title defence at UFC 196.
‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ was handed her first professional loss after being rendered unconscious via rear-naked choke in the fifth round.
Holm was having the better of the exchanges on the feet for most of the fight but ran into trouble when she was taken down in the second. Tate dominated her from the top position for the entirety of the round and almost locked in a submission, but it was well defended by Holm.
The reigning champion dominated the standup exchanges for the next couple of rounds but ‘Cupcake’ came out with fire in her belly at the last and got the finish.
WOW! @MieshaTate chokes @HollyHolm out cold to be crowned the new women's bantamweight champ. #UFC196 #AndNew https://t.co/zB8s9SSeTF
