To be fair, the second yellow was very harsh.
Mario Balotelli’s ludicrous form since moving to Nice was cut short when the controversial striker was shown a red card in injury time of his new club’s 2-1 victory over Lorient on Sunday afternoon.
In what can only be described as a quintessentially Mario Balotelli five minutes, the former Liverpool and Manchester City forward scored the winner, was booked and was sent off quicker than you can say ‘why always me?’
In the 86th minute, Balotelli created space and cracked home a screamer for Nice which was his sixth goal in five games for his new side.
Stupidly, he celebrated the golazo by pulling his shirt off and wildly swinging it over his head. He was predictably punished with a yellow card by referee Olivier Thual.
It took less than five minutes for him to see yellow again and he can probably feel hard done by as it was the most innocuous of head-to-head confrontations that saw him receive his marching orders.
It’s easy to see that Balotelli thought about properly sticking his forehead into that of opposition player Steven Moreira, who was also booked, but decided against doing so as he knew he was on a booking.
But the official didn’t like what he saw and harshly sent Balo packing.
Never a dull moment with the lad.
