Barcelona v Celtic produced two comedy pieces of defending

Best iron that out before the season starts

Robert Redmond

Vintage Efe Ambrose.

Celtic played Barcelona in Dublin on Saturday evening, as part of the International Champions Cup pre-season competition, and despite the presence of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, the first-half was one defined by two hapless pieces of defending.

Barca took an early lead, with Arda Turan curling the ball home from the edge of the penalty area, but Celtic were gifted an equaliser after 29 minutes.

Leigh Griffiths pounced on this heavy touch from Jose Antonio Martinez.

However, Efe Ambrose wasn’t about to be upstaged in the comedy defending department.

Barca got play back underway, broke down Celtic’s left and Ambrose, under no pressure whatsoever, stuck out a leg and put a cross into his own net.

Kolo Toure’s arrival can’t come soon enough for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

There’s something you never thought you’d hear.
