After the scintillating goal-scoring form Christian Benteke has been in this last season, it’s no surprise to learn that he’s in the Belgian squad for Euro 2016.
Leading the line for second greatest national side on the planet (go and check the FIFA rankings) against Finland, Benteke once again offered a glimpse of why he’s so deserving of his place in the squad for France.
Trailing the Finns by a single goal, Benteke found himself free of his marker inside the six yard box when Kevin De Bruyne picked him out with a cross. It wasn’t *quite* an open goal, but given that the goalkeeper was making his way back to the centre of the goal from his near post, it virtually was one.
It seemed all Benteke had to do was get his left foot on the ball and the Belgians would be level. He *did* get his left foot on it, but unfortunately for him, couldn’t steer the ball into the goal.
Everton’s (for now) Romelu Lukaku did find an equaliser later on, but his fellow Merseyside-based striker won’t have struck fear into the hearts of many opponents with this finish.
And before anyone says anything about the cross coming at him quickly, please remember that this man cost £32m last year.

Belgium, yet again described by many as ‘dark horses’ for tournament glory, face Italy, Republic of Ireland and Sweden in their group.
