Conor McGregor offers spine-tingling message to the Republic of Ireland team

"We're not here to take part, we're here to take over"

How can you not be pumped up after seeing this?

The Republic of Ireland get their Euro 2016 campaign going against Sweden in the Stade de France this evening and the country’s first ever UFC world champion has offered some words of inspiration to the boys in green.

McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, has urged Martin O’Neill’s men to show their toughness and fight, and to refuse to take a backwards step when they come up against Zlatan and Co. in Paris.

From Irish state broadcaster RTÉ, the preview of the game features ‘The Notorious’ speaking passionately about what it means to be Irish as the national team looks to upset the odds in Group E and do the tricolour proud.

For anyone who’s ever been in attendance for a McGregor fight, you’ll have heard “you’ll never beat the Irish” ring out through the arena and he carries that spirit with him for this message.

Let’s see if O’Neill’s charges can prove that right this afternoon.
